Ion was sent to Caterina as a messenger together with his friend Radu. However, Tres did not know that there would be a messenger and sees Ion as an enemy and shoots him in his arms.

Later, one the state of inquisition makes his move and Abel and Esther have to make sure Ion and Radu get out safe.

Esther always had a hatred for vampires, but during her time with Ion it changes and they become friends. Ion even starts to love her.
