HIPPO
Hippo is Lucia's cute guardian/pet penguin, sent to ensure her safety while on land. Straightforward and blunt, he is dead
set against her with Kaito because he knows that a human and mermaid cannot ever fall in love. So he tries to discourage her
whenever he can. His other role is to remind Lucia that she is a mermaid, and so she should behave like a mermaid, manner-wise.
From what I have observed though, Lucia listens to Hippo, but does not exactly take his advices to heart.
Hippo has his fun and cute side too ^^ Because he is a fat little penguin, he is often a victim of abuse. Lucia drags him
around in her mission to stalk Kaito (see episode 6), little kids pinch his face and squish him as if he's a toy, and Taki-san
plucks out his fur whenever she looks into the crystal ball, causing him to bang his head on the ceiling in pain ^^; Poor
little guy! He is willing to have fun once in a while as well, for example going "chick-hunting" (see episode 4). Well after
all, Hippo IS a male! ^_^
Believe it or not, Hippo is much more than just an annoying penguin. In episide 26 he transformed into an adorable blond boy
after getting bit by a dog. Many girls flock to him upon seeing his cuteness! However Hippo seems to be more reserved as a
human, and dislikes all the attention from girls. So he escapes to his usual hideout where he meets Yuri and falls in love
with her. He still remembers his responsibilty as a mermaid guardian though, because he tells Yuri it's best not to meet each
other...so sad, because he really loves her! =(
Furthermore, Hippo can also turn into a Pegasus like sea creature with the Fuuin no Kagi. He is also the one who frees Coco
and Noelle with the enlarged Fuuin no Kagi staff. So do not underestimate Hippo, because he is a lot more powerful than he
looks at first xD;
